MCP server

The AppGoat MCP server gives your agent app store tools: look up apps, read reviews and listing changes, research keywords and read the charts. Hosted at https://api.appgoat.ai/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth sign-in or an x-api-key header).

Claude Code

Add the hosted server, then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in with your AppGoat account.

claude mcp add --transport http appgoat https://api.appgoat.ai/mcp

Or authenticate with an API key instead of OAuth:

claude mcp add --transport http appgoat https://api.appgoat.ai/mcp \
  --header "x-api-key: $APPGOAT_API_KEY"

Claude

On claude.ai or Claude Desktop open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://api.appgoat.ai/mcp and sign in.

Claude Desktop can also run the server locally (claude_desktop_config.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "appgoat": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@appgoat/mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "APPGOAT_API_KEY": "your_api_key"
      }
    }
  }
}

Cursor

Add the server to .cursor/mcp.json in your project (or the global config). Cursor opens the sign-in page on first use.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "appgoat": {
      "url": "https://api.appgoat.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}

ChatGPT

Turn on developer mode (Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced), create a connector with the URL https://api.appgoat.ai/mcp and sign in with your AppGoat account.

Other clients

Any MCP client that speaks Streamable HTTP can use https://api.appgoat.ai/mcp (OAuth 2.1, or an x-api-key header). For stdio clients run the server locally with APPGOAT_API_KEY set:

APPGOAT_API_KEY=your_api_key npx -y @appgoat/mcp

Tool inputs are generated from the same OpenAPI document as the API reference. Results are compact markdown with a footer showing the credits used and left; pass format: "json" to get the raw { data, meta } response.

Playbooks as prompts

The server bundles the AppGoat playbooks as MCP prompts, so clients that show prompts can run them as slash commands: app-audit-lite, find-app-ideas, aso-keywords-metadata-rewrite, competitor-digest, reviews-to-github-issues, reply-to-every-review, apple-ads-optimizer, localization-push. Clients without prompt support get the same text from the list_playbooks tool.

Errors and retries

Failed calls come back as a tool result with isError and a readable message: the HTTP status, the error code, the API's hint and a docs link. Rate limits (429) and upstream errors are retried twice with backoff before they are reported; out of credits, plan limits, an invalid key or an unknown app are not retried.
